Notes for Ada Josephine Gamel:
Ada Josephine Gamel married Glever Dallas Jackson. Glever Dallas Jackson left Ada and his three boys when the boys were very young. He married Lora Brasher. Ada and boys had no contact with him after he left them. She raised the boys by herself. They lived in a house on Spring Street in Sylacauga, AL. I visited her 3 times that I remember. Twice to spend the night and once for the "Wake" after she died. She had a big black kettle in her back yard where she would wash the clothes. I believe she also made her own soap. Her son William Otis Jackson lived with her during one of my visits and I remember her cooking him breakfast, consisting of eggs over easy, grits, tomatoes, ham and hot pepper sauce. He put ketchup on his eggs. I remember she kept an album filled with newspaper clippings about events happening during her life time. I don't know what happened to that album. My sister Dorothy Faye may remember more. Our daddy was Ernest Edwin Jackson, 1901-1981.

92 ii.   William Otis Jackson, born June 24, 1903 in Sylacauga, Alabama; died April 30, 1958 in Sylacauga, Alabama.
  Notes for William Otis Jackson:
Uncle Otis died from a self inflicted gunshot wound to the head. His son "Billy" died the same way. Uncle Otis left one daughter named Gloria. Uncle Otis and my Daddy, Ernest Edwin Jackson could sing together beautifully. They could harmonize and I remember them singing "I'm forever blowing bubbles". I remember going to the funeral home to stay with Uncle Otis with my sister Dorothy Faye Jackson. Daddy could not handle the death and could not even go to the funeral home. When my son Barry died of suicide (19 yrs old) it made me wonder if there are more suicides in this family. My sister and I received the call at home about Uncle Otis. The person calling said that the man they were calling about was called "Jack". As my father was called "Jack" and my uncle Otis was called "Jack" we did not know which it was until we went to this home out in the country and identified him. We picked up my mother Dorothy Bates Jackson from where she was working, Foremost Dairies, and drove out to the country house together. My poor mother must have been terrified and we prayed that it was not Daddy or Uncle Otis. As is classic, according to text books, Uncle Otis gave away his few belongings to the young boy living in the house before shooting himself.
