He married MARIAH CATHERINE EDWARDS March 04, 1857 in Farmers Creek, Jackson, Iowa, daughter of JEFFERSON EDWARDS and LOUISA COCKRELL. She was born October 29, 1840 in Columbus, Franklin, OH, and died November 06, 1930 in Garrison, McLean, ND.

William James Conklin Jr, when about 10 years of age, traveled
with his parents from the State of Ohio into Jackson County in
Iowa. In Sept 1850, they were living in Otter Creek Township of
Jackson County. William's father was born about 1808 in New
York State. His father was laid to rest in 1857. in Iowa.
William's Mother Ester was born about 1812 in New York State,
Ester was laid to rest in Iowa. William's oldest Brother
Aminadab was born in 1834 in Marion County Ohio.

William James (Jr) married Mariah in 1857 in Farmers Creek
Township in Jackson County Iowa. They settled in or near the
town of Iron Hills just south of Farmers Creek Township. It is
now believed that their son Russell was laid to rest at age 15
in the Wilson Cemetery near Iron Hills, In about 1883, the
Conklins moved into Jones County which is just West of Jackson
County. Four years later, they moved to Gayville in South
Dakota in 1887. In 1888, they traveled to a farm near
Stockville, which is in Frontier County Nebraska. However they
returned to Gayville in 1894. William passed away in Gayville
in 1901. Mariah, in 1903, moved the family to Garrison in North
Dakota. This was her home until her death in 1930.

W. J. Conklin died at Gayville, South Dakota, August 21. Mr.
Conklin
was a resident of North Star precinct, moving to South Dakota in
1894.
Mrs. E. N. Hinton is a daughter of Mr. Conklin's. He has been
ailing
for some time.

Wm. Conklin died at his home four miles southwest of Gayville on
Tuesday, August 20 aged 64 years and 14 days. For many years
Mr.
Conklin has lived in this community. Though he has suffered
much diring
the past six months the end came without a struggle. He was a
man of
God and death had no terror for him. "Blessed are the dead that
died in
the Lord." The funeral was held at the home on Wednesday
afternoon,
conducted by his pastor, Hudson W. Smith, of Gayville who spoke
briefly
from the words found in St. John 14, 1-3. A large number of
friends
attended the last sad rites. The remains were interred in the
Mission
Hill cemetery where they await the glad resurrection
morning.--Yankton

ARIAH CATHERINE EDWARDS:

Mariah Catherine Edwards traveled with her parents from Ohio
into Jackson County Iowa when Mariah was about seven years of
age or about 1846 or 1847. They were living there in Farmers
Creek Township in Sept of 1850. Her Father Jefferson Edwards
was born about 1814 in the State of Pennsylvania. He was laid
to rest in---Iowa. .

Conklin
was born near Columbus, Ohio, October 29, 1840. She moved with
her
parents to eastern Iowa in 1844, where she was married to W. J.
Conklin
March 5, 1857. All of her 13 children were born there. In 1887
the
Conklins moved from Iowa to Yankton, Dakota Territory, and from
there to
Garrison, N. D., in 1905, where Mrs. Conklin has since made her
home
until her death, November 8. She is survived by eleven
children, namely
P. J. Conklin, Rapid City, S. D.; T. J. Conklin, Spearfish, S.
D.; W. J.
Conklin, Crow Agency, Mont.; Mrs. J. J. McElwain, Garrison,
N.D.; F. J.
Conklin, Stoneham, Colo; R. P. Conklin, Keystone, S. D.; L. N.
Conklin,
M. C. Conklin, and F. C. Conklin, Garrison, N. D.; Mrs. J. E.
Colby,
Berkeley, Calif; and Mrs. Ernest Miller, Garrison, N. D. The
deceased is
survived by numerous grand and great grand children, six
brothers, and
one sister. She was a llifelong Christian, devoted to God, a
loving
mother, and a worthy neighbor, loved by all who knew her. For
more than
forty years she was a member of the Methodist Church. The
funeral
service for Mrs. Conklin was conducted in her home and later in
the
Garrison cemetery, where interment was made. Miss Effie Baker
officiated at the services. Banks of flowers helped to express
the
esteem in which the departed was regarded. The pall bearers were
five
grandsons, Stuart McElwain, Gordon McElwain, Irwin Conklin, John
Conklin, and Ralph Miller.
