ILLIAM ARMSTRONG:
Emigrated 1819 with brothers, crossing Atlantic by sailing ship, landed in New York . Lived one year, Silver Lake, Pennsylvania. Moved to Ovid, New York. Refused to take oath of allegiance to United States. 1823, Thomas, the unmarried brother, went to Canada to look for land. Purchased 200 acres, Concession 2, Lot 17, Eramosa Twp, Wellington County (first farm north of Barries Church). Other brothers "took up land close by". William acquired 200 acres on Lot 22, Concession 1 and 100 acres on Lot 23, Concession 2, Eramosa Twp. For several years, all supplies had to be brought from Dundas, about 40 miles away, by oxen or on foot. First assessor for Eramosa Twp.
