2. DANIEL C.⁴ WILCOX (ELIJAH³, SAMUEL², PROBABLY WILLIAM¹) was born Abt. 1830, and died Unknown. He married (1) MARTHA JANE HICKS, daughter of DAVID HICKS and EVELINE HOLTSCLAW. She was born 1842, and died 1903. He married (2) SARAH ANN RAYFIELD. She died Unknown.

Notes for DANIEL C. WILCOX:
Daniel was better known as Little Dan, due to his height which was about 4'11''.

Daniel was a circuit riding Hard Shell Baptist preacher whose favorite sermon was "Vanity of Vanities, All is Vanity". When upset or angry his only oath was "devilish trot on that".

He was a fine furniture and clock maker. He owned a large farm on which he built the only house on Elk Creek above Elk Park, NC which had running water piped into it from a spring box Also on his farm he had a sawmill, a gristmill, and an apple orchard.

He was a private in Company A, McRae's Battalion, North Carolina Cavalry. He was captured in Cooke Co., TN on 14 Jan. 1864 and confined at Rock Island, Illinois until transferred for exchange on 15 Feb. 1865.

Notes for MARTHA JANE HICKS:
It is said that Martha was near 6 ft. tall making her and her not quite 5' husband a comical pair. She was known to be a very religious woman who disciplined her children and raised them well.

Martha is supposedly of Scottish descent.
