Alexander (Sandy) Kerr married Mary Ann Orr on Feb 8, 1853 East Parish, Greenoch Renfrew Scotland.

Their first child, John, was born March 17, 1853 on the island of Islay. He was an infant when they emigrated to Canada.

The Kerrs settled in Egremont, Ontario, where the remaining eight children were born.

Alex Kerr and Mary Ann Orr Kerr had 9 children:

John; Janet; Annie; Duncan; Mary; Sandy; Elizabeth; Mave; Baby girl

Alex Kerr sailed on the Great Lakes. When his wife Mary died in childbirth at the age of 42, leaving him with a young family, he left Egremont and moved to Manitoulin Island in 1876.

There he purchased a point of land on Kagawong Lake -- known as Kerr’s Point. To get supplies, they went by sailboat to Kagawong. The nearest school was at Long Bay.

Alex Kerr was visiting cousins on the East Bluff when he took ill and died in the summer of 1900
