* The McKenzie/McKinzies of MD and thier westward migrations*

Updated October 12, 2006

The Mackenzies originated in the Ross & Cromarty region of Scotland. According to several researchers, many of whom have web pages on FTM, my line originated in America with Colin Mckenzie. Much information on this line can be found at FTM and on the internet. I have utilized these resources for my research. I have therefore concentrated on John McKenzie Sr. born 1765 in Allegany MD and his decendents. John was the 5th of 7 sons. He migrated to Kentucky about 1810, most likely because he would have inheirated little if any land from his father Gabriel.

Most of John Sr.'s sons migrated to Illinois in the mid 1820s. His son Daniel McKenzie/McKinzie, born 1805 was my great-great-great grandfather. Daniel married Matilda Gray in 1826 in Sangamon co. IL.
