William McKnight (b. 1731, d. January 13, 1794)
Notes for William McKnight:
Bought 280 acres in Loudoun County 29 October 1763 from William Tate (DB 479).
Was appointed Overseer of the road formerly kept by James Nicholls, 11 November 1771 (Order Book E:248). Had long running suit for debt against John Dodd (1785/87 to 1791) which he never collected (Order Book K:69, 137, M:134, 275, N:21, 123). Died intestate before 13 January 1794 when letters of administration were issued to his wife, and sons Eli and Uriah (Order Book P:326). His inventory listed 2 horses, 4 colts, 12 head of cattle, flax seed, hay wheat and farm implements and totaled about 175 pounds in value (Book E:10). His property was divided among his nine children and his widow, 9 February 1796 (Order Book Q:86, 330).
He appeared in Ruth and Sam Sparacio, "Tithables, Loudoun Co., VA 1857-1769," (McLean, VA: Antient Press, 1991) in 1765 (p. 34), 1768 (p. 64), 1769 (p. 76). Also on Personal Property Tax List in 1782 (with sons Benj and Eli), through 1785, 1787-1789, 1791, 1793.
