* The McKenna & Reynolds of Co Clare, Co Sligo & New Zealand*

Updated September 5, 2000

The McKenna side of our family came fron Ballyloughnane, Ogonelloe, Co Sligo. The oldest name we have is Thomas McKenna, b. abt 1795. His son Michael, b. 1822, married Annie St Laurence and had 10 children, thre of who emigrated to NZ in abt 1880 - Edward, James and Michael. Edward and James settled in Patea, NZ, and Michael in Greymouth and Auckland, NZ. The eldest son, Thomas remained in Ireland to inherit the family farm which was sold in 1997 by Thomas' grand daughter Mary Ellen (Maura) Geoghegan.
The Reynolds side of the fmaily came from Ballinahowna, Dromore West, Co Sligo. The oldest name we have is Martin Reynolds who married Nan Kiely. His son Michael married a Brigid (Beezy) Hart and had a number of children and two daughters emigrated to NZ in 1887. One, Brigid (Agnes) married Edward McKenna in Patea, NZ in 1895. Michael's son James inherited the farm which is still in Reynolds hands (Michael-Joe Reynolds). We know that some of James' children emigrated to the USA. Tom Reynolds was in the US Air Force and Henry Reynolds also lived in the USA.

Other families we are interested in are Currie, Thompson, Maxwell and Cochrane - of Scotland, mostly Dumfries. Known names are - David Cochrane (arrived in NZ 1860 and brother of James Cochrane, a Lord Mayor of Montreal), Grace Currie, John Thompson, John Maxwell, Mary Ann Thompson.

We would appreciate any information or contact and will share any we have.
