Grandparents Ary Cary and Samuel Berry Justice (Lawrence County) and Elizabeth Osborn Bays and John Perry Friend (Johnson, Floyd and Lawrence County). Ruth Friend Hatcher (Mae's sister) raised Mom Brown.
