I am researching the Settle family descended from Francis Settle who first settled in Virginia shortly after the "Lost Colony" in the early 1600's, as well associated families. These include the Oertly's descended from Bartholome Oertli who came to America as an attache to the Swiss Embassy in the 1850's and became a noted architect and composer.
Also I am researching the Byrne family from the area of Richmond, Virginia who were well established in this area prior to the American Civil War. George Ignatius Byrne, my great-grandfather married Estelle Ouncay and settled in Washington DC during the early 1900's and died there in the 1950's.

In 1999 I have expanded my research to that of my husband's family name McKay and Springer, both of these families have deep roots in the Southern Maryland area since at least the early 1800's.

If you have any information that you think may be connected to my research please contact me by mail or e-mail, I would be more than happy to share the information on the over 1800 descendants that I have already located.
