Welcome to the McLemore's page. James Macklemore, born 1662, in Scotland and his brother Abraham, came to this country and first settled in Suffork, County, VA. There James married Fourtune Gilliam abt 1692. Fourtune was the daughter of John and Margary Gilliam. She was also half Cherokee Indian. They had the following children, William, Margary, John, James II, Charles, and Ephriam. James and Fourtune later moved to Bertie, County, NC and spent his life there, d.1735. Fourtune died shortly after in 1735.From here the story of this Scot-Cherokee family grows into a wonderful and historical record of adventure, love, travel, War, tragedy, and accomplishment. Above all, it's a record of the generations that follow to present, a rich and colorful history. I am Billy W. McLemore,MSgt, USAF-Ret, decendent of James Macklemore. I have a large database of the decendents. Contact me for information.
