James and Mary were born in Chester County, SC with many of the other pioneering families of the Scotch Covenanter religion. They made their way to Lincoln County, Tennessee with their parents, and married within the church in the 1820s. In the mid 1840s, they moved on to Marion County, Illinois and had my Great-great-great grandmother Tirzah Elvira Morton.
