Descendants of Jesse McLain (McClain) born 1794 S. Carolina

Updated September 13, 2005

I am researching the family McLain (McClain - McLane - McLean and variations). My earliest proven data shows that Jesse McLain (McClain) was born in 1794 somewhere in South Carolina. He was next documented in 1818 in the Alabama Militia. Jesse married Philloby (Fereby) Hobson in 1822 in Jefferson County, Alabama, and had children there. Fereby died before 1837 when he married Sarah Knight in Perry County, Alabama, and started another family there. Parts of both families lived there for the next 20 years before moving into Neshoba County, Mississippi. Parts of the families married and settled in northern-central Alabama, others throughout Mississippi as the family moved through the Mississippi Delta into Arkansas during the Civil War. Jesse died in 1870 and was buried in Polk County, Arkansas. Sarah Knight McLain moved into Franklin County, Arkansas with some of the children and died there a few years later. Descendants from these marriages are scattered throughout the Southeast. I have twenty-two years' worth of good documented data on most of these descendants which I'll share with any serious family researcher with other documented data. I am seeking information on Jesse's parents and other siblings.
