His only reference in the Scituate church records shows him on trial for stealing the Bible from the Meeting House. He was convicted and fine one pound for the crime and ten shillings for telling a lye about it. This possibly was the reason for him moving to Eastham, MA, where his name appears in the marriage records. Eastham was originally called Nausett after the local Indian tribe. By 1666, it was a settlement of 4-5 dozen brave souls, and was considered a tiny English outpost in the narrow neck of land between the bay and the Atlantic Ocean. William had not made the move to NC with his parents, but he decided to make the move to the settlement in Piscataway, Middlesex Co, NJ. His wife's father, Richard Bishop, moved with them. He was a pillar in the Quaker Congregation that met in the neighboring town of Woodbridge. He was chosen a freeholder, a constable, a town clerk and he served on the Church Board.
