Joseph Bridge was the first of our family to arrive in Australia. He came from Lancashire in 1806 as a convict for trying to pass forged pound notes. His brother James was hung for the same offence.Joseph died in the Moreton Bay penal colony (now Brisbane) for re-offending in Sydney.Helen is descended from Joseph's son James. Richard's father's family is Scottish so research has been easier than the rest of our families using the "Scotland People" website. Helen's father's father's family is German (Otte) so research has been more difficult than most other lines except for Helen's mother's father's family (Williams from Cardiff, Wales). All lines back to arrival in Australia including some convicts. Research lines also include the following: McLauchlan/McLachlan; Young; Faulds; Donaldson; Hunter; Cook; Royan; Stewart; Brodie/Broddie; Riddick/Rudie; in Scotland. Walsh; Thomas; Ward, Jones, Bridge, Whiteman, Vinell/Vinall/Vineall; Sullivan; Westall; Drake; Brann; Rofe; Brine; Bridgland, Knight; Buffy/Buffey; Deacon; Downs; Drewett/Drewitt; Fitlow; Godfrey; Griffin; Hill; Gowen/Gowan; Jenner; Mason; Oliver; Orchard; Copping; Russell; Trebilcock in England. Contact from fellow researchers would be welcome.
