Greetings, fellow genealogy sleuths! We've been getting intrigued on finding on how our Scotch-Irish ancestors helped build modern America (Micki's maiden name is McCrary). SO far, Micki has some family traced back to 1600's in America, while I've gotten some circumstantial evidence that my McLaughlin line goes back to a George McLaughlin who came to America around 1785 with most of his eventual 11 sons. However, I'm not positive that his grandson, John of KY, is my gr-great grandfather. My father's paternal line as I understand it now is as follows (as descendants of George Mc.): George Mc. - from Londonderry, Ireland; immigrated to Georgetown, PA; James Mc. - b. Londonderry, d. 1847 Sparland, IL; John Mc. - b. 1795? PA or KY, d. date? KY; Joseph Levander Mc. - b. 1817 KY, d. >1888 Lawrence Co., AR; Andrew Jackson Mc. - b. 1861 Muhlenberg Co., KY, d. ~1936 Laketon, TX; Joseph Levander Mc. - b. 1896 Ryan, OK, d. 1972 Amarillo, TX; Jack Erwin Mc. - b. 1924 Cimarron, NM, d. 1984 Dallas, TX; James & John Mc. - b. 1952 Dallas, TX. As one can see, the "weak link" in this reckoning is the father of the 1st Joseph L. Mc. -- John McLaughlin. What are his birth and death dates? Was he really the 'right John'? We would appreciate any connections with anyone who knows about any Mc's in Pennsylvania and Kentucky in the early 1800's. Thanks! P.S. Anyone know where a name like "Levander" originated?? |
