Mary Kathleen (MacFarland) McLachlan

Edit Your Page

My maternal & paternal lines are MACFARLAND / PAUPPER and FARABEE / MATTINGLY.
The FARABEES are a well researched line and there's lots of information on Farabee / Furbee / Furby. [But please note: As of yet, it has not been proven by Farabee researchers that Caleb Farabee is the same Caleb Furbee that married Jane Brady. So far this only seems to be an assumption made by Louis Thomas Farabee, author of "The Genealogy of the Farabees in America."] My mother's a descendant of JESSE ASBERRY FARABEE (b: 1832) and JANE HARMON (b: 1834) who were married in 1834 in Hall County, Georgia. Can't hear from too many Farabees or Mattinglys or the lines related to them such as Crowells, Harmons, Jacksons, Ashers, Sizemores, Hubbards, Stewarts, Philpots & Sassers!

The MCFARLANDS are my paternal line. My great-grandfather, JOHN MCFARLAND (b: 1845) married ISABELLA HAMILTON (b: 1845-7) in abt. 1866 at Mountfield Church of Ireland, Cappagh Parish, Co. Tyrone and they had 12 children all born in Fecarry, Co. Tyrone, Province of Ulster, Ireland. Most of the children immigrated to the States & settled in Pennsylvania but 4 of the 12 are still unaccounted for. John's father was WILLIAM MCFARLAND (b: 1810-25, Glasgow, Scotland) and with his wife NANCY STINKLER (b: 1815-25, Belfast, Ireland), they had 9 children who were all probably born in Co. Tyrone as well. Unfortunately, we have little information on William's 9 children (except for 3) so I'm always glad to hear from others looking for McFarland connections in Co. Tyrone, Ulster, Ireland. William & Nancy's children were remembered with a rhyme:

James, William, Andy, John,
Archie, Oliver, Davy, Tom;
and everyone of them had a sister,
and her name was Maggie.

My husband's paternal & maternal lines are MCLACHLAN / MCLAUCHLAN and MCCAMMONT / MCCALMONT / MCALMONT (only to list a few of the spelling variations!). Our research takes the MCLACHLAN line back to a ROBERT MCLAUCHLAN (b: 1778-83) who married MARY DAVIDSON (b: 1778-83) between 1800 & 1803 in Scotland. Next we go to their son, ROBERT (b: abt. 1812)who married SARAH MCMILLAN (b: 1810-20) Oct. 21, 1837 in Ayr, Scotland. Of their 5 children, all born in Kilwinning, his line goes through their son ROBERT who was born in Ayr and married ANN WYLIE MCWATT. They had 10 children, one of which was my husband's grandfather, ALEXANDER. He married JESSIE YUILLE. There's a lot of family still missing so we'd love to hear from any McLachlans or their descendants who may have lived at one time in Kilwinning, Ayr, Kilmarnock or Saltcoats, Ayrshire, Scotland. For more information, see the Descendants Report on Robert McLauchlan I.

The MCCAMMONT research takes us back to a JOHN MCALMONT/MCCALMONT who married MARY ROBERTSON in Ireland (probably the province of Ulster). Their son JAMES MCALMONT / MCCALMONT / MCCAMMONT (b: 1831, Ireland) married MARGARET GORDON (b: 1841, Ireland). Where in Ireland they were born we have yet to find out. They were married in Beith, Ayrshire, Scotland in 1856 and had 9 children who were all born in Dalry. One of these was my husband's grandfather, WILLIAM (b: 1863, Dalry) who married SARAH JANE WATSON (b: 1866, Dalry) in 1885 in Dalry, Scotland. They had 13 children. Lots of family still unaccounted for here as well, so if you have connections to McCammonts in Ayrshire, Scotland or in Ireland, do get in touch. For more details, see the Descendants Report on John McCalmont below.
