Descendants of Leonard Hornsby

Generation No. 2

      2. William2 Hornsby (Leonard1)15 was born 25 Aug 1739 in Jamestown, James City Co., VA16, and died 1827 in Rhea Co., TN. He married Lucy [--?--] Unknown. She was born Unknown, and died Unknown.

Notes for William Hornsby:
NOTE: This William has been mistakenly referred to as William Blake Hornsby. This comes from a handwritten entry in which "William Blake" was entered into the Hornsby/Stroud Bible and it was assumed that the reference was to the son, William. But actually this was referring to the husband of Phanuel Hornsby.

NOTE: It is quite possible that the children associated with this subject were the children of another William Hornsby and not William, son of Leonard. Alot of researchers have presented these families, but more research is required to validify the connection. To my knowledge there is no documentation that solidly identifys William, the father of these children, as William, son of Leonard. Further research is needed.

------------------------------------

NOTE: Copied from the Hornsby/Stroud Family Bible, now located at Winthrop University - Dacus Library, Rock Hill, York Co., SC. Bible. - "William Hornsby the Son of Leonard Hornsby and Elizabeth his wife was born the 25th of August 1731" It is my OPINION that William's birth year was 1739. My reasoning for this opinion is based on what we do know from the other entries in the Bible. If you look at the birth years of William's siblings they are approximately every two years, which is fairly normal. If William was born in 1739 it would fit right in with the birthing pattern of the other children. If William was born in 1731 there would be a 9-10 year gap between the first and second child of Leonard and Elizabeth and that doesnt seem likely. It is also stated in the Bible, "Elizabeth Hornsby deceased January the 21st 1801in the Eighty first year of her age being the wife of the said Leonard Hornsby". She would have been born between 1719-1720. If William was born in 1731, Elizabeth would have been approximately only 11 years old. If William was born in 1739, then Elizabeth would be approximately 19 years old, which seems more likely to be the age of a woman having her first born.

He is possibly the William Hornsby who was a Revolutionary War Prisoner of South Carolina, who, on 17 May 1781, was sent on board the prison ship "Torbay" and the schooner "Packhorse".
