William died just 10 days before his 76th birthday. He died in Hernando [now Pasco County], Florida.

  Marriage Notes for CLOYAN MCLEOD and WILLIAM MCDOWELL:
Apparently, the marriage was not what Cloyan expected, as Book AA, Page 32, Taylor County Official Records, state William F. McDowell divorced Cherry Ann McDowell. According to these records, she abandoned her husband for no cause for more than a year. Further, they were unlawfully married on 10 February, 1865.
