Bottom Left to Right: Sylvannus, Susannah, and William.
Sylvannus served in the Civil War for a brief period. Born in Armstrong, Pennsylvania, he moved his family to the fertile farmlands of Marilla, Manistee County, Michigan. He was one of the pioneering settlers of the area in 1866. According to the Manistee Historical Museum Director, Sylvannus was a prosperus farmer due in part to the land, but also the location near to the lumbering railroads of the time. Apparently this decreased the transit cost for sale of the produce. Many of the Evens descendents still live in the Manistee area.
