Sophia Wood Hamer (1811-1890), the wife of James Hamer (1806-1848), lost her husband early in life. She went West with her children in the 1880's and died in Ray County, Missouri. James is buried in the Hamer Cemetery in Lawrence County Indiana, but Sophia is buried in the Hickory Grove Baptist Cemetery in Ray County Missouri with her daughter Mariah Louisa Hamer Bright.
