James Johnson (Johnston) was born in Pennsylvania in 1752 or 1756. He fought in the Revolutionary War, but may not have been a Lt Col. He came to Indiana Territory in the 1780's. He raised a large family and died in Lawrence County Illinois in 1826. His grave is in the Jackman's Cemetery in Lawrence County, Illinois.
