Grave of Thomas Hamer (1766-1829)
Thomas Hamer was born in 1766 in Northumberland County, Pennsylvania. He married Hannah McNeal, the daughter of Robert and Jean (Baker) McNeal. They were parents of a number of children, including William, Nancy, Hugh, Thomas L., Lettecia, James and Joseph. They lived in Ontario County (later Livingston County), New York. Hannah died in 1811. Thomas and some of his family moved to Ohio, then to Lawrence County, Indiana. He died in 1829 and was buried in the Jolly Cemetery in Bono, Lawrence County, Indiana. His body was moved by his descendants to the Hamer Cemetery in Lawrence County, Indiana, in 1937. His stone reads: "In Memory of Thomas Hamer, who died May 9, A.D. 1829. Aged Sixty Two Years, Eleven Months, and Seven Days." There is also a military stone for his service in the War of 1812.
