1. JOHN C.¹ CARLTON was born November 22, 1816 in North Carolina, and died January 30, 1897 in Groveton, Trinity County, Texas. He married (1) ELIZABETH WILSON, daughter of William Wilson and Ludicia Elliott. He married (2) RUTH A. HUNT.

According to Jill Crist Hornung John C. Carlton served in the Creek Indian War in western Georgia. At the time of his death he was receiving $8.00 monthly for his military service. He also enlisted in the Seminole Indian War in Florida. He and Ruthey are buried in the Glenwood Cemetery in Groveton, TX.

According to Volunteer Soldiers in Indian Wars & Disturbances 1815-1858, John Carlton, pvt., served in Parhams Company of Howards Btn. of GA Mtd Mil in the Florida War. John, pvt., served in Word's Company of Lindsay's GA Mtd. Mil. in the Cherokee War.
