Descendants of John C. Carlton

Generation No. 2

2. CARTER BRAXTON2 CARLTON (JOHN C.1) was born August 24, 1839 in Nacogdoches County (later Cherokee Co), Republic of Texas, and died November 23, 1924 in Hoquiam, Chehalis County, Washington. He married DELPHIA ELIZABETH WILSON November 16, 1865 in Cherokee County, Texas, daughter of William Wilson and Ludicia Hall.

Notes
According to Jill Hornung Carter Braxton Carlton arrived in Washington Territory January 1, 1889. The two youngest children, Jesse Wesley and Matha Pearl, were born in Washington and the other children appear to have been born in Texas. C. B. Carlton founded the Hoquiam Creamery, which was later turned over to the sons living in Washington and became the Carlton Dairy Company. Both C. B. and Liz are buried in Wynooche Cemetery, Montesano, Washington, with daughters Mary Ophelia and Martha Pearl.

Also according to Jill: "From the national Archives, Jackson, Mississippi May 12, 1865. Carter Braxton Carlton of I Company, 10th Texas Calvary Reg., Extors Brigade, CSA, residing in Cherokee County, Texas, having been with approval of the proper authorities is permitted to return to his home not to be disturbed by the United States Authorities, so long as he observes his parole and the laws in force where he may reside." He was a Methodist minister in Montesano and a janitor in the court house.

According to Jane Carlton Sayler: C. B. Carlton was a circuit preacher in Oklahoma after the Civil War. The family left Oklahoma in late 1888. They traveled by train to Portland, OR, and then by boat to Gray's Harbor and on to Montesano, arriving January 1, 1889.

Per Ophelia Crist Teale, Ella Carlton Crist's daughter: The Carlton family came from Ardmore, OK (Indian Territory).
