Funeral Rites Held Saturday For Mrs. McNichols, 77
Funeral services for Mrs. Fleecie McNichols, 77, of 11 D Spence Apartments, who died Oct. l at Massac Memorial Hospital, were held at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Assembly of God Church.
The Rev. W.V. Akins officiated. Burial was in Massac Memorial Gardens with Aikins-Farmer Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. McNichols is survived by one daughter,Mrs. Freida McCoy of Metropolis; six sons, Kenneth McNichols of Champaign, Leston McNichols, Lavern McNichols, Raymond McNichols, Robert McNichols and Wardell McNichols, all of Metropolis; one sister, Mrs. Florence Thompson; 20 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were her grandsons Randy McNichols, Ronnie McNichols, Durwood Eleam, Jack McNichols, Jerry Leek and William Lauderdale.
Pat Lunsford was the organist and vocalists were Wilma Akins and Winifred Jones.
The following orbituary was read at the services.
Fleecie Inez McNichols born March 27, l898 in New Columbia, Illinois to John and Talitha Jean Stills Henderson and departed this life Oct. 1, l975 at the age of 77 years 6 months and 3 days.
On April 1, l917 she was united in holy matrimony to Jesse A. McNichols. This union was blessed by God with seven children.
She was a faithful member of the First Assembly of God Church. A sunday school teacher and a faithful worker until the Lord called her home.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jesse A. McNichols; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Henderson; two sisters, five brothers and one great-grandson.
In passing she leaves the joys of her life, her family; one daughter, Freida McCoy; six sons; Leston, Lavern, Raymond, Robert and Wardell all of Metropolis and Kenneth of Champaign, IL. Also six daughters-in-law; one son-in-law, 20 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; one sister Mrs. Florence Thompson of Metropolis; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She is loved and cherished by her family.
Though in our hearts there's grief today
There's hope and faith that once again
We'll meet where death can no more part us
Where God and joy forever reign.
Organist for the services was Pat Lunsford. Singers were Wilma Akins and Winifred Jones. Aikins-Farmer Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Serving as Pallbearers: Jack McNichols, Durwood Eleam, Jerry Leek, William Lauderdale, Ronnie and Randy McNichols, her grandsons. Her granddaughters served as the flower girls.

OBITUARY - Metropolis Plant March 5 1997
Lavern "Tootes" McNichols, 76, of Metropolis, died Sunday, March 2, 1997 at Massac Memorial Hospital in Metropolis.
Funeral sevice wil be at Akins-Farmer Funeral Home with Rev. Harmon Furr officiating. Music will be provided by Colleen Furr and Jerry Leek.
Burial will be in Massac Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be Jerry Burnham, Bill Stokes, Carl McNichols, Lindolph Croft, Keith Stokes, and Ronnie McNichols.
Mr. McNichols was a teamster and U.S. Army veteran seving his country during World War II.
Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Thelma McNichols of Metropolis; one son Steven McNichols and wife Paula of Vienna; one daughter, Francis Ermshar of Riverside Calif.; four grandchildern, Lorri Jones of Riverside Calif., Richard Munford and wife Carolyn of Metropolis, Wayne McNichols and his wife Gail of Paducah Ky and Terry McNichols of Lafayette La; 14 great-grandchildern; one sister, Frieda McCoy of Metropolis, five brothers, Leston McNichols, Raymond McNichols, Robert McNichols and Wardell McNichols, all of Metropolis, and Kenneth McNichols of Champaign; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jessie and Fleecie Henderson McNichols.
Visitation will be from 6-9 P.M. Wednesday at Aikins-Farmer Funeral Home.

Elie Thomas McCoy, son of Charlie and Eula Thurman McCoy, was born Sept. 13, 1918 in Tipton County, Tenn. and passed from this life July 7, 1968 at Carbondale Memorial Hospital in Carbondale ILL. at the age of 67.
He grew up around Sikeston, Mo. andcame to Metropolis in 1937. On Nov. 21 1942 he married Frieda McNichols and to this union were born two daughters: Karen and Judith.
Elie attended and becamme a member of Lighthouse Assembly of God Church in 1950. He became a Deacon and served in this capacity for 28 years. On Jan. 15, 1978 he was made an Honory Deacon. In the spring of 1978 Elie along with Jack Landis, drove the bench mark nail to inaugurate the building of the new facilities, Lighthouse Assembly of God. Elie remained a member of Lighthouse Assembly of God Church till his passing.
He was precede by his parents, Charlie and Eula McCoy.
Elie is survied by his wife, Frieda; two daughters, Karen Leek and her husband Jerry, Judy Lauderdale and her husband William; two grandsons, Richard Leek and his wife Lea Ann ,Charles Leek and his wife Nancy; one granddaughter, Michelle Lauderdale, all of Metropolis; his stepmother, Dovie McCoy of Madera Calif.; two sisters, Mary Sumner of Pontiac Mich. and Helen Pyle of Calif.; two brothers, Charlie McCoy and Gene McCoy both of Madera, Calif.,; brothers-in -law, sisters-in -law, nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
We cannot know what lies ahead from day to passing day,
What changes God is planning in His wise and loving way.
We cannot know the reasons why our sorrow has to be.
Why we must lose the ones we need and love especialy.
We cannot know-but we can trust, and faith can help us find Our way to those tomorrows that will bring us peace of mind.

Raymond J. McNichols, 71, of Metropolis, died Sunday, April 13, 1997 at Massac Memorial Hospital.
Mr. McNichols was a World War II veteran and attended Lighthouse Assembly of God Church. He was a member of American Legion Post 306 and Disabled American Veterans.
Survivors include one daughter, Lois McCandless and husband Roger of Metropolis; three sons, Ronnie McNichols and wife Cathy and Randy McNichols and wife Kandi, all of Metropolis, and Mark Raymond McNichols of Paducah; four grandchildren, Charles McNichols, Timmy McNichols and Justin McNichols, all of Metropolis, and Shenette Smith of Mayfield, KY.; two great-grandchildren, Kylie Smith of Mayfield and Joshua McNichols of Paducah; four brothers, Leston McNichols, Robert McNichols and Wardell McNichols, all of Metropolis, and Kenneth McNichols of Champaign; one sister, Frieda McCoy of Metropolis; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jesse and Fleecie Henderson McNichols; one brother, Lavern "Toots" McNichols; and one grandson, Ron McNichols.
Funeral service was Wednesday at Aikins-Farmer Funeral Home with Rev. Larry Lunsford officiating. Burial followed in Massac Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers were Kris McNichols, Keith McNichols, Kevin McNichols, Karl McNichols, Steve McNichols and William Lauderdale.

Funeral Services For Mrs. Retta Davis Held Friday At 2:00 P.M.
Funeral services for Mrs. Retta Davis 67, were held Friday at 2 P.M. from the Church of God with the Rev. E. H. Harding officiating.
Casket bearers were: W. J. Mescher, Fritz Mescher, Johnny Bowlin, Sherman Gillespie, Jack Husion and Robert Dollar. Flower bearers, were Mrs. Sherman Gillespie, Mrs. Verba Hogan, Mrs. May Walter, Mrs. Smother, Mrs. Leon Speckman, Mrs. Walter Fix, Mrs. Long and Mrs. John Horntrop.
Burial was in the Odd Fellows Cemetery.
Retta Reynolds daughter of Ned and Martha Reynolds, was born January 15, 1882, in Pope County, Illinois and died November 16, 1949 at her home in Metropolis, being 67 years, 10 months and one day.
She was married May 2, 1901 to Ed Davis. To this union ten children were born. Three of them preceded her in death. Left to mourn her passing is her husband, Ed Davis, and seven children: Mrs. May Maness of St. Louis, Missouri; Mrs. Faye McBride of Metropolis; Paul Davis of New Columbia, Illinois; Carl Davis of Metropolis; Mrs. Hazel Casper of Aurora, Illinois; Mrs. Mable McNichols of Harrisburg, Illinois and Robert Davis of McNoel, Illinois.
Seventeen grandchildren: Gene, raised from childhood by Mrs. Davis, Lloyd and Charles Maness, Mrs. Evetta Rushing, Mrs. Wanda Windhorst, John McBride, John and Gilbert Casper, Lavelle Davis, Mrs. Evelyn Leek, Rheitta and Jackie McNichols, Ronnie, Donna Faye, Phyllis, Dickie and Roberta Davis.
Four great-grandchildren: Davie, Joe, James Edward and Larry Rae Maness; and Carolyn Faye Windhorst, who passed away a few days ago.
Three sons-in-laws, and three daughters-in-law. She also leaves 2 sisters; Mrs. Cora Wells and Mrs. Minnie McCurdy both of Metropolis; three brothers, and one sister preceded her in death.
Mrs. Davis joined the Baptist Church and was baptized in 1913 at Charleston, Missouri. She was a kind loving wife and mother and will be missed by all who knew her.
