Mr. Russell was the son of Payton F. and Hattie (Coats) Russell. He was born in Appleby, Texas and had resided around the area all of his life. He married Willie Mae (Green) Russell, August 22, 1936, they have been married for 59 years. Mr. Russell was a self employed grocery store owner. He had two locations, one in Mahl and one in Pleasant Hill. Mr. Russell always raised the best gardens, having done the work with a mule he called Clyde. He loved the outdoors and one of his favorite sports was fox hunting. He had served as president of Nacogdoches Fox Hunting Association. Mr. Russell was a family man, loving his wife, children, and grandchildren very much. All the grandchildren called him "Grandpaw". He was active in the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church over 60 years. Mr. Russell had many friends and was a dedicated Democrat. He was a very special person to all and will be missed by everyone who knew and loved him.
