1. William¹ Vanderlip was born Unknown in Europe, and died 1785 in Niagara District, Lincoln Co., Ontario, Canada.

Notes for William Vanderlip:
William Vanderlip was believed to have been born in Holland and moved to North America in the 1750's where he settled in PA. He moved from there to Canada sometime after the beginning of the Revolutionary War. The family members were loyalists and both Frederick and John Vanderlip served with the Royal Army forces during the war.
Records reflect that there was probate of a will October 1787 in Wilkes Barre, PA.
There are a few other Vanderlip's that were in North America at the same time as William and it is believed that they were related. The relationship has not been established but it is significant to note that the descendants seemed to settle in the same locations.
The origin of the surname is from Von der Lippe. Records reflect that the name originated in Prussia.

Notes for Frederick Vanderlip:
The records show that Frederick Vanderlip was considerably older than his brother John. On November 17, 1754 He and his wife are listed as witnesses at the baptism of a child and in 1765 he made application for lands in PA. Records also indicate that he was a member of Butler's Rangers during the Revolutionary War. He is listed as a member of Captain William Caldwell's Company of Butler's Rangers from December 25, 1777 to October 24, 1778. His will was submitted for probate in October 1787 at Wilkes-Barre, Luzerne Co., PA.
