Find Family

* The Douglas K.McRae Family Page*

Updated December 16, 2001

This branch of the Clan MacRae emigrated from Kintail Scotland abt. 1774, perhaps as early as the 1750s.. John McRae and his brother Roderick (sons of Hugh, grandson of Alexander of Inverinate, and great-grandson of Reverend Farquhar McRae 1580-1662) settled in North Carolina just
in time to support the losing side in the Revolutionary War. They
fought for the king at Moore's Bridge in 1776 and consequently,
as refugees/United Empire Loyalists arrived in Quebec.
John's wife died in giving birth to their only child also named
John.
Eventually, they moved to Glengarry County in Ontario where young John married (1804) Isabel Chisholm daughter of Col. Alexander Chisholm and had many children. Some of these children moved to Manitoba and then on to British Columbia.
I would like to fill in details about the family still in the USA,
where there are many branches of the family, those
in Canada and also get data about the family in Scotland from the earliest period to the present.
Other family names include: Chisholm, Algar,Hopper,Gillander,
Radford, Parke,Sloane.
I am happy to share the information I have already collected.
