Notes for S
IMON BUIE:
Simon Buie married Hettie Ann Blue in 1880. From this union there were fifteen children of which thirteen survived infancy. A granddaughter, Flora McMillan, remembers him as a light skinned man, who in his old age walked with a great deal of dignity. I was ten years old when he died in 1934. I remember visits to his house and playing in his grape arbor. I also remember that he was a tall bronzed man with a lot of white hair and I remember his funeral in the old Panthersford Presbyterian church where many of my ancestors, including my mother and father, are buried.

Notes for H
ETTIE ANN BLUE:
Hettie Ann Blue, the daughter of Thomas Blue and Mariah Humphrey, was born in 1861, four years before the Emancipation Proclamation. Her parents were not formally married until after the end of slavery. She married Simon Buie in 1880. She and Simon together with her younger brother John Henry Blue inherited the property of her parents which consisted of about 300 acres of land that had been given to Thomas Blue by his former owners. Hettie was a dark complexioned woman with much of the energy of her mother, Mariah Humphrey. One of my aunts described her mother as "jet black."

Notes for J
OHN DENNIE MCMILLAN:
John Dennie McMillan, Jr. married Betsy Buie, daughter of Charlie Buie and Flora McPherson, in 1897. At the time of their marriage, John Dennie had a daughter, Catherine, born May 1893, apparently from an earlier marriage. The 1900 census shows Catharine living in the household of Dockery McMillan, one of John Dennie's seven brothers. According to the 1900 census, Dockery was born on January 1865 and was married to Amy Unknown who was born in February 1872. Apparently no children resulted from this union.
