* The McSorley Family from Drumquin County, Ireland*

Updated September 6, 2000

My great-grandfather, John, came to the US from Drumquin County in Ireland sometime in the mid 19th century and lived for a time in the New York area. During this period, he fought in the Civil War, and married his first wife,Charme Quigley. They had no children that I can find. She passed away in 1869, and he married his second wife Jane Splan in 1874, in Detroit, Michigan, and eventually had 5 children, among them my grandfather John Edward McSorley.
I was told that my great-grandfather John had a brother named Patrick who emigrated, either from Ireland directly, or from the US, to Australia. Where this branch of the family ended up, I haven't been able to find out. As for the records of my great-grandfather and his family in Ireland, they were all destroyed in the courthouse fire in Ireland in the 1920s.

Any information would be greatly appreciated, and I will be more that happy to share any data that I have with interested parties. Feel free to Email me at the address below.
