There are many variations of the spelling of the name BERNDHISELL. In various records, it is spelled Benrnhisle/Berndtheusel/Barnhisle/Barnhysell/ and countless other ways. In John's (Johanne's) son's generation, it is often seen with the "Bern/Barn" dropped. In the following generation, the "Bern/Barn" is seldom used, and the name is spelled variously as HISELL/HISEL/HISLE/HYSEL/HYSLE. In our family, from the late 1700s, it is most often spelled, "HISLE".

John (Johannes) Berndhisell/Berndtheusel came to America from Germany in 1732 on the ship, "Samuel". Accompanying him were Wendell Berndhisell/Berndtheusel, (bro?) and Valantine Berdtheusel & wife Sousanna Bohlin Berndtheusel of Badin, Germany. It is possible, though not proven that these were his parents.
