Thomas Bennett was a shoemaker. He moved to the Elk Creek Dist. of Grayson Co. Va., sometime after 1860, but prior to 1870. He enlisted May 12, 1863, in Company C, 45th VA Infantry, CSA. He enlisted at CampWoodson. He was listed as being absent without leave on April 1, 1864, but he was wounded at the Battle of Cloyds Farm on May 9, 1864.

Fielden G. Bennett, 16, 1860 GCC HH#1297, Grayson Militia, Co. C, 63rd VA Inf., Enlisted April6,1862 at Moccasin Gap. NFR. Co. K, 51st VA, Enl. on July 18, 1862 at Grey Sulphur Springs. Hospitalized at Chimborazo Hosp. June 8,--August 4,1864 for acute diarrhea, again on October 23, 1864 at Charlottesville. Taken POA at Waynesboro on March 2, 1865, sent to Fort Delaware on March 12,1865, released on June 22, 1865, Res. of Grayson Co. light comp. light hair, grey eyes, 6'. Age 24, farm laborer, 1870 GCC. Granted pension on June 2, 1900 by the Grayson Co. Pension Board. Pension rerated June, 1909. He was a US mail carrier & the son of an Englishman.
