| Traced back to John McVittie b.1770 who farmed at Hallcroft Farm near Langholm , Dumfriesshire in Scotland.John was married to Janet Hyslop. Their son Robert , my great great grandfather, moved to the Valley of the Ewes near Langholm and is buried at Unthank Farm. Unthank was once farmed by the Murrays. John Murray married Barbara Bennett daughter of the Laird of Chesters. His son James went to America returning in 1744 to marry his cousin and childhood sweetheart.A few generations on came Sara Delano, mother of Franklin Delano Roosevelt. Would like to hear from anyone with connections the McVittie Family and also any descendants of Archibald Westmacott McVittie and his brother Thomas Thane McVittie , Dominion Land Surveyors of Calgary & Cranbrook &Fort Steele, in Canada. |
