2.*JACOB2 PFAUTZ, SR. (*HANS MICHAEL1) was born 1705 in Rohrbach, Rhenish, Palatinate, and died 1762 in North Carolina. He married *ANNA MAGDALENA KUNTZ Abt. 1719 in Europe, daughter of *JOHN JACOB KUNTZ.She was born 1705 in Rohrbach, Rhenish Palatinate, and died Abt. 1763 in Hanover Township, York County, Pennsylvania.
Notes for *JACOB PFAUTZ, SR.:
Jacob and Anna Magdalena arrived at Philadelphia September 18 1727 on the ship "William and Sarah" from Rotterdam with a total family count of three and one-half freights (children under age eight were counted as one-half freights)
Came with father Hans Michael Pfautz, Sr.
Previous readings of Jacob's old, weather-beaten tombstone have
been recorded as giving 1716 and 1720 as birth years. Evidence,
based on date on Grandparents' mar., possible birthdate of
Father, and John Michael as first sons throughout this Pfautz
family -- plus circumstantial evidence that John Jacob Knutz was
Jacob's father-in-law--Kuntz came from Lower Neckar Valley also,
on same ship as the Pfautz in 1727, moved to Digges' Choice (now
York-Adams Co., Pa.) at same time that Jacob Pfautz located
nearby, ca 1741-2 -- suggests that Jacob belongs here in Family
Order.)"
2 Oct. 1743 took communion at the Conewago Lutheran Church
Naturalized on 18 Oct. 1743 by the Provincal Court of Maryland.

Philadelphia County, New Returns, 1734-1758, being Volume 9, "Warrants and Surveys of the Province of Pennsylvania Including The Three Lower Counties 1759" (9:55-56): Jacob Pfautz remained in the Skippack area of Frederick Township, Philadelphia (now Montgomery) County, taking out a survey warrant for 150 acres on Perkiomen Creek (bounding Wyan Tul, Gerard Zin, and Christian Stinebough) on 29 October 1734. On 7 March 1738 he had the tract surveyed, but did not follow through on the procedures required for patent. On 21 April 1741 (just 11 days after Jacob had sold the tract purchased from his father in Lancaster County to Samuel Cunningham), all of his rights under the Philadelphia County warrant were forfeited and his tract was patented instead to Jacob Free.
It is doubtful that Jacob and his family lived on the Hans Michael Pfautz tract on Conestoga Creek in Lancaster County for longer than a year (if at all), for the Philadelphia County forfeiture implies haste and expediency atypical to the times. (The warrant and survey each had value and could have been sold, time permitting). Whatever, by December 1741 Jacob was settled west of the Susquehanna River in the four-mile stretch of land north of the Temporary Line between Pennsylvania and Maryland and south of Digges Choice, a Maryland patent which was legally a part of and administered by Baltimore County, Maryland. He was a neighbor to and associated with those Germans who carried on the battle with John Digges and his heirs, 1735-1795, but his land was clearly south of the disputed area. The Mason-Dixon Line established later (1769) passed through it. By 1763 Jacob's family was located either in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, or in Rowan (now Randolph) County, North Carolina.
Burial: Lutheran Cem, Strasburg, Lancaster Co, Pennsylvania
