Find Family

* Stephen Mednick's Family Home Page*

Updated May 2, 2008

I am researching my MEDNICK family that moved from the small town of Kalyus, Ukraine to London, England in 1911.

So far, I can trace the family back to about 1770 to a Shlema MEDNICK who lived in the environs of Kamenets-Podolsk, Ukraine.

Shlema MEDNICK had a son called Srul who was born around 1798. Srul married a woman called Keila around about 1820 and they had 5 children:

Ber born 1845
Esther born 1848
Joshua born 1851
Moishe Isaac born 1855
Genya born 1857

Moishe Isaac was my Great Grandfather and his son Simon, born in 1874 was my Grandfather. In 1886 there are records to show that Moishe Isaac moved with his family to the small town of Kalyus on the Dneister River not all that far from Kamenets-Podolsk. In 1898, whilst still living in Kalyus, Simon married a Malya (Mary) SACKS, the daughter of Joseph and Rebecca SACKS. They had several children and eventually migrated to London in 1911.

What I'm interested in finding out is the names of any siblings that my Grandfather Simon MEDNICK might have had. If he did, then there's a good chance that they might have been younger than he was.

In association with my MEDNICK research, I'm also interested in the ancestors of Joseph SACKS who lived in Kalyus, Ukraine.

If anyone can be of assistance, I'd be most grateful.
