These reports are mostly of descendants from the MEEK, HITCHCOCK, PAUL, LEWIS, PFAFF and CURTIS families.
James Meek came to Ontario from Rich Hill, County Armagh, Northern Ireland in the early 1800's, first living in Ross Township, Greene County, Ohio, U.S.A., then settled near the Orangeville area of southwestern Ontario. One of his Grandsons, William Herbert Meek, was my grandfather who married Jessie Lewis and settled in Port Rowan, Ontario where he was a druggist.
My Lewis history story starts with Edward Lewis and Margaret Jones in the mid 1500's at Penarth. Wales. His Grandson, William was the Lewis to leave the U.K and travel to America on the good ship "Lyon".
William Lewis arrived in Boston, Mass., on the "Lyon" in 1632 and his descendants mainly lived in the CT, VT, and N.Y. areas of the U.S.A. with the exception of Barnabas Lewis who came to Canada (Elgin County) around 1828 to obtain land from Col. Talbot. Talbot controlled the land in 26 counties in south western Ontario at the time and sold his 50 acre lots for $40.00. Many Americans came north to take advantage of Talbot's offer of land.
The HITCHCOCK families are connected several times to the Lewis families through marriage. Most occured in the New Haven, CT. area where both families were pioneers from the sixteen hundreds.
I have just started researching the Paul Family of the Temagami area of Northern Ontario. The Pauls are Algonquin Natives and live on Lake Temagami. Their Ancestors lived and trapped in this area for centuries.
The PFAFF family line has been added. Anthony PFAFF came from the Alsace Lorraine area of France which was under Germany at the time of his birth in 1797. He settled in the county of Vaughan, just north of Toronto, Ontario.
CURTIS is another report included here. They trace back to England in the 1500's and tie into the Welles families there.
If you can assist me to further my research in anyway, please email me. I would be happy to supply anyone with information about the MEEK/LEWIS/HITCHCOCK/PAUL families as well.
