Find Family

* The Mefferd, White, Clayton, Halstead Family Home Page*

Updated September 5, 2000

We are interested in finding out more about our families, including the Mefferds, related to Benjamin Franklin Mefferd, 1852-1927, of Juniata County, Pennsylvania. We are especially eager to find who his parents and ancestors were. There is a family story that he and one brother were raised by separate families (Benjamin grew up with the Yetter family on a farm in Juniata County, Pa.); it is believed that their parents were traveling West on a wagon train, and died, and so the boys were left behind and raised by others. We know of 5 possible Mefferd / Meffert forebears--Eigidius Meffert & Johann Peter Meffert, who came to America in 1748, and Andreas and Johannes Meffert, father and son who came in 1749, and Georg Conradt Meffert in 1751. There are only 100 years to fill in a possible link with one or more of these fellows with Benjamin Franklin Mefferd. Other Mefferd family connections include Hower/Hauers, Vaughans, Claytons, McGees, McMullens, and Chilcotes, all of Pennsylvania. From my own background, I would like to learn more about families named White, Latham and Robinson, of North Carolina and Virginia, on my father's side. On my mother's side, I want to research Halstead and Ewell (of N.C. & Va.), Byrom and Prince, of Tennessee.
We would like to obtain information from others about these family groups, and would also be happy to share what we have.
