Robert Jackson was born 1829 in Ireland, married Mary Shaw in Clough County, Antrim 5/15/1850, emigrated to New York, served in the Civil War (112th NY Volunteers Co D). Mary's brother Thomas settled in Newman Il. Robert and Mary Jackson had William Alexander, Edward,Mary, Adam, George and John. William A.(the oldest) married Margery Prager. Margery's parents were Margaret Maitland (from Aberdeen, Scotland) and Alexander Prager (Russia), both came to the US shortly after their marriage in Scotland, probably 1850s. William and Margery Jackson had 5 children: William H., Robert A., Maitland S., Marjorie and my grandfather Edward Henry Jackson. E.H. married Flora Garrecht, daughther of John Garrecht and Margaretha Klingel. Margaretha Klingel was born abt 1842 in Germany and emmigrated to Mountain Home, PA with her family and father, Jacob, in 1847. The family settled in Bartonsville, PA.The Garrechts are the earliest arrivals to the US.The PA 1850 census finds my greatgrandfather John Phillip age 4, his father Adam age 32 and his grandfather Philip Garrecht age 62 in Easton, Northampton, PA. Philip and Adam are shoe makers. In 1860 the 3 generations are living in Phillipsburgh NJ.10 years later John age 35 has married Margaretha Klingel age 32 and is living in Lapatacong Township, NJ. Their children are Charles, Howard, Emma Annie and John L.My grandmother, Flora, is not born until 1885. | |
