At Electrical Shop

County attorney Frank Seay said the morning first degree murder charges
would be filed today against Mrs. Ethel Blank, 54, accused of shooting and
killing her husband Guy Blank, Tuesday night at his electrical shop south of
Letha.
Blank, said to be in his early 60's was dead on arrival at Seminole
Municipal Hospital a short time after the shooting. He died of four 22 caliber
bullet wounds, three in his chest and one in his head, Deputy Sherrif Bill
Merryfield said.
Mrs. Blank was in the Seminole hospital today for treatment of shock.
County Attorney Frank Seay said this morning he had been unable to question the
woman about the shooting.
The couple was separated at the time of the shooting and Mrs. Blank was
living in Shawnee, investigating officers were were told by George Taylor who
lives just south of the Blank shop. A divorce action between the couple is
pending in Seminole County District Court. It was filed May 27, 1964.
The shooting took place about 8 p.m. at the Blank's shop, located about 50
yards north of the Maud Y on east side of Highway 99 Deputy Sherriff Bill
Merryfield said nearby residents told him that Mrs. Blank and the couple's
adopted son, Jerry Blank, 12, had arrived at the shop just a few minutes before
the shooting.
Blank was shot while standing a few feet in front of his shop. The accused
woman stood about ten feet away from him when she shot him. A witness to the
murder, Mrs. Gene Colvin who lives one mile east of Maud, was getting into her
pickup at the time of shooting. The pickup was parked behind Blank.
Mrs. Colvin had just picked up a lawn mower that Blank had repaired for
her. Two small children were with her at the time.
Officers were still searching this morning for the gun used in the
killing. It was believed to be a 22-caliber semi automatic rifle, Merryfield
said. Mrs. Blank walked to the family home just north of the electrical shop
after the shooting and called Seminole police, asking them to call an
ambulance.
Jerry Blank, the adopted son told investigating officers the gun belonged
to Mrs. Blank. He added that the gun had been wrapped in a red blanket prior
to the shooting. Officers had not found the blanket either. The gun was
believed to have been thrown in some nearby weeds.
The first bullet was believed to have hit Blank in the mouth and was found
lodged in the upper part of his head on the right side. Th dead man's lover
false teeth were found on the ground where he fell. The force of the bullet
was believed to have knocked them out.
A second bullet was removed from the dead man's upper left chest. Two
other bullet holes were found in the lower part of his chest.
It was not known how many times the woman fired at him. Officers said one
or more of the bullets may have entered the pickup parked back of where Blank
had been standing. Empty cartridges ejected from the gun had not been found
late this morning by officers.
Several persons living nearby told investigating officers they heard
several gunshots but did not know if there was any argument prior to the
shooting.
