    Born in France, Jeanne Baptiste Chevalier married Jacques Dessery and immigrated to the prairie in Illinois. Widowed in the 1860s she went with her family to Tonganoxie, Kansas. When her pioneer home dug into a Kansas hillside was invaded by Indians she chased them away with a kettle of boiling water! Her gravestone in Tonganoxie matches that of her husband in L'Erable, Illinois.
