Descendants of Jean Joseph Aucremanne
Generation
No. 1
1. JEAN JOSEPH1 AUCREMANNE was born 1804 in Belgium, and died 4 July 1891 in
Green Bay, Brown County, Wisconsin. He
married MARIE DESIREE DEWERPE. She was born
22 January 1810 in France, and died 11 February 1895 in Iroquois County,
Illinois.
Notes for JEAN JOSEPH AUCREMANNE:
There is no evidence of
Jean Joseph and Marie Desiree in the 1860 and 1870 Illinois Census; however
record keepers and census takers did have difficulty with this surname,
sometimes spelling it O'Cremond. Jean Joseph does appear in St. John the
Baptist Catholic Church records, L'Erable, Illinois when he served as godfather
for the infant Arthur Nicolas Joseph Lemenager (son of his daughter Antoinette)
11 December 1863. In the same records Marie Desiree was godmother 8 July 1862
for Jules Lemenager, son of Antoinette Aucremanne Lemenager. Her surname is
found in the records as: Delnoupt, Delnvoupt and Dewerpe. Only the spelling of
Dewerpe appears in 1997 phone directories of Belgium. The will and
administration of Jean Joseph is found in Register of Probate, Brown County,
Green Bay, Wisconsin, File #2158. Marie Desiree was born 22 January 1810 and
died 11 February 1895 in Iroquois County, Illinois. They are both buried at
L'Erable, Illinois. The Comet, Clifton, Illinois, issue of Saturday, 16
February, 1895 gives her obituary, "Mrs. Desire Aucremanne died at the
home of Peter Douglas (Herrigott) Monday evening of dropsy. The deceased was
born in France 84 years ago but came to America in 1856. She leaves two
daughters, Mrs. Peter Douglas and Mrs. Eugene Lemenager, besides many friends
to mourn their loss. The funeral services were held Wednesday the remains being
taken to L'Erable where they were laid beside her daughter." A local news
item added, "Henry and Joseph Douglas, of Chicago, came down to attend the
funeral of their grandmother."

Notes for GUILLEMINNE AUCREMANNE:
Son Marcelle Antoine was
baptized at L'Erable, Iroquois County, Illinois at St. John the Baptist
Catholic Church, according to records compiled by Norma Meier. Bernard and
Guilleminne do not appear on 1860 census in Iroquois County; at the time of her
father's death in 1891 they were living at Chatelineau, near Charleroi,
Belgium. They apparently returned to Belgium sometime after 1858. She is
mentioned in her father's probate.
Child of GUILLEMINNE AUCREMANNE and BERNARD COLETTE is:

September 1858, L'Erable, Iroquois County, Illinois.

Illinois. He was born 1837 in Belgium,
and died 28 January 1897 in Iroquois County, Illinois.
Notes for MATILDA AUCREMANNE:
St. John the Baptist
Catholic Church, L'Erable, Illinois, Record Book One by Norma Meier shows their
marriage. For a time the family took the surname of Douglas because of their
admiration for Stephen Douglas during the period of Lincoln-Douglas debates. He
is buried at L'Erable, Illinois and she is buried at Clifton, Illinois; there
are no gravestones. The younger children's birth records are found at St.
Peter's Catholic Church, Clifton, Illinois. Matilda's obituary states she lived
in Clifton 60 years or more.

His birth record is found at
St. Peter's Catholic Church, Clifton, Illinois. His delayed birth record is
filed with Iroquois County, Illinois and gives the birthdate of 21 March 1880
with certification given by his brother Peter. The record also gives the
mother's maiden name of "Ocreman" and states both parents were born
in Green Bay, Wisconsin. It appears all of these "facts" are in
error.
