2. JOHN2 MELROSE (JAMES1) was born August 30, 1752 in Eight miles west of New York City in Bergen County, New Jersey, and died 1823 in probably in Wood County. He married MAHETABLE SCOTT August 07, 1779, daughter of JOHN SCOTT and RUTH STOCKTON. She was born February 14, 1757 in Princeton, New Jersey, and died 1843 in probably in Wood County.

OHN MELROSE:
John Melrose appears by 1777 in Somerset County, New Jersey until 1784 when he and his mother sold some land and moved to Hunterdon County, New Jersey. He left Hunterdon County about 1787 and by 1797 was in Monongalia County, West Virginia. By 1801 he owned land in Harrison County, West Virginia. He was granted 1,000 acres of land in Wood County, West Virginia on 16 January 1800. It was about this time that he and his family moved to Wood County.
