The Descendants of Joseph Walls

 		Welcome to my family page. Due to the birth of my own child in 2003, time to work on this page has not been as frequent as I had hoped when I started it. The information included has come from my father mostly and cousins I have found along the way. The information I have listed (and noted as such)was confirmed or found via the North Carolina Room in the Forsyth County Public Library in Winston-Salem, NC.

My research started one day when my Dad asked me if I ever put any of our family names up for a search on the internet? I tried and now I am the family historian. Please note that whatever information I have I will gladly share and discuss. I am not a name collector or someone who believes that I am the only person allowed to have this information. This is not a easy task for any of us who have an interest in our family roots and I figure we need to work as a community, as we all do not have the access or the time to travel for the information we are in search of. After all, we have families and the living deserve our time as much as those who have gone before.

That being said, when my father Roby Walls gave me a "kinship" report of sorts that had been handed down through a family reunion in 1950, things really started to roll. What you will see is a combination of that report and what I have been able to confirm using this information. My direct line surnames include Walls, Crouse, Jolly, Hoots, Hooks, Garris, Peacock and Taylor. So far this page includes the details of the Walls line, with hopefully more to come as I confirm details and make sure the reports are correct. Many of you who use FTM know that you can make a wife or husband the primary if there was more than one spouse and at times the one button you should have hit can throw things off. So I am trying to make things right before I put them out here.

Please note that I am still working on this Walls Tree and my major sticking point right now is my GG Grandfather William Burton Walls. I have not found any information on his death date or place of rest. Anyone who reads this and might in anyway have information that can help please contact me at the email address listed.

Thank you to Abbie Walls, Tommy Walls and Steven Caudill for all of their help and emails over the years. Thank you to my Dad for the many hours of conversation and recollection. I will continue to search as time permits and I hope this site is helpful to someone out there. I make no claims of perfection so view it accordingly. I am just trying to be helpful and honest to all those on the search.

    Thank you to Steven Caudill for the directions to the graves located on Leaman Walls Road, not far from Austin-Traphill Road near Elkin, North Carolina. This is a small family grave area. Some of the stones are in rough condition, but you can make out the information with some effort. This one states: Joseph Walls (was bornd Dec.18, 1839 and DE 13 APAD 1869 and he Vol. In . Def . of . Sout (Please note this is not the earliest Joseph, as a picture of his grave is not available)

    Please note that the names given on the picture call Docia Margaret Crouse Walls by the name Maggie. It has been my discovery that a lot of folks used their middle name rather than their first name, at least in this family line.
