Moved to Georgia and became one of the first settlers of Ware County, Georgia.

Lewis Davis first went to Georgia with brother Arthur around 1790, went back to Anson County, North Carolina in 1793 to sign a land deed with his older brothers, Arthur, Thomas and Isham.
Family went to Stewart County, TN, listed on the 1810/20 census as having 4 sons and 3 daughters. Henry County, TN. was formed from Stewart County in 1821.

      56. John E. Tanner, born Bet. 1765 - 1785 in Georgia; died Aft. 1820 in Emanuel /?/ Telfair Co., GA. He was the son of 112. Unknown [Joseph???] Tanner and 113. Unknown [Elizabeth Lanier???]. He married 57. Mary Douglass Abt. 1806 in Montgomery Co., GA.

Notes for John E. Tanner:
Between 1803 - 1805, he was in Montgomery County, Georgia.

During the war of 1812, in the roster of Capt. Robert Quarterman's Company, of 2nd Regiment, Ga., Militia, John Tanner is listed as Private. This company was raised in Liberty County Georgia 18 Jan. 1815, and mustered out at Riceboro on 26 Feb. 1815. It was commanded by Lt. Col. John Pray of Brig. Gen. John Floyd's Brigade of Maj. Gen. John McIntosh's Division.

He is believed to be a descendant of a John Tanner, who was a Lieutenant in Oglethorpe's Regiment which settled Fort. Frederica in 1733. This Lt. John Tanner was granted land in St. George's parish on several occasions between 1757 and the beginning of the Revolutionary War.

  Notes for James J. Taylor, Sr.:
James J. Taylor, his wife and most of their children were members of the Taylor Town Methodist Church in Appling [now Bacon] County. The campground for the Homerville Circuit of the Methodist Church was located near the Taylor home, and the Methodist Church now on that site is called Camp Ground Church.
It was organized after the camp meetings were discontinued. The old cemetery there contains the graves of James J. and his wife, and show that he died 04 July 1881, and his wife on 17 August 1890.

TANNER, GREEN 1810-1862 COFFEE
Green Tanner was born in Montgomery [now Emanuel] County in 1810, a son of John Tanner and wife Mary Douglas. His wife was Elmina Hall, born 1818 in Burke County, daughter of Hardy Hall Sr., and sister of Hardy Hall [Vol. 2]. Green Tanner moved to Telfair County soon after marriage and settled in the portion south of the Ocmulgee River, which was the portion made into Coffee County in 1854. He moved about the same time his brother, Elijah Tanner [Vol. 4], and Wilson Tanner [Vol. 3], had already settled on or near the then county line between Telfair and Appling Counties [but which area on both sides of the line became Coffee County in 1854]. He served in the Indian War in Capt. N. J. Holton's Company of Appling County Militia in 1838. Green Tanner died at his home in eastern Coffee County in 1862, his will was probated June 02, 1862, in Coffee Court of Ordinary, and named his wife, Elmina to be exectrix. He bequeathed $200.00 each to his minor children; Mary, Lucinda, Delilah, "to equalize them with those who got land", no other children named in will.

In the name of God Amen I Green Tanner of said State and County being of advanced age but of sound mind and memory that I must shortly depart this life, deem it right & proper both as respects my family ___ myself that I should make a disposition of the property which Kind providence has bl____ I do therefore make this my last Will & Testament hereby revoking and annulling al_____ by me heretofore made.
ITEM 1, I desire & direct that my body be buried in a decent and Christain like manner suitable _____ circumstance and station(?) in life my Soul I trust shall return to rest with God wh____ it as I hope for Salvation through the attonment of the blessed Lord and Savior Jesus _____
ITEM 2, I desire & direct that all my just debts be paid without delay by Executor he _____ named & appointed.
ITEM 3, I want my negro boy London & Lucy & Elyce to stay in the _____til Eighteen Hundred seventy to. ___to___ the minor heirs, & then sold & equally divided amongst the heir ____
ITEM 4, I want my three children Manning(?) and Lucinda and Delila to have Two hundred _____ a piece to make them Equal with those that got land.
ITEM 5, I don't want the stock cattle sold. I want them Equally divided amongst my heir ____
ITEM 6, I want the widow and minor heirs to have two head of work horses __as she may ____- out of my stock of horses to put to her use.
ITEM 7, I reserve fifty head of hogs for the use of the widow and minor heirs & the balance ____ my hogs & horses sold and equally divided amongst the heirs.
ITEM 8, I want my wife and minor heirs to have all my plantation tools house hold and kit______ furnitures for their own proper use and benefits
ITEM 9, I hereby constituted & appoint my loving wife Guardian of the persons and proper _____ my Said minor heirs.

Whereupon it is ordered that s____ be admitted to record as the last Will and Testament of Green Tanner deceased and th__ testamentory do issue therein to said Elmira Tanner Executor by comply with the Law i___ case(?) made approved.
