Notes for Robert Green Tanner:
TANNER, GREEN 1810-1862 COFFEE
Green Tanner was born in Montgomery [now Emanuel] County in 1810, a son of John Tanner and wife Mary Douglas. His wife was Elmina Hall, born 1818 in Burke County, daughter of Hardy Hall Sr., and sister of Hardy Hall [Vol. 2]. Green Tanner moved to Telfair County soon after marriage and settled in the portion south of the Ocmulgee River, which was the portion made into Coffee County in 1854. He moved about the same time his brother, Elijah Tanner [Vol. 4], and Wilson Tanner [Vol. 3], had already settled on or near the then county line between Telfair and Appling Counties [but which area on both sides of the line became Coffee County in 1854]. He served in the Indian War in Capt. N. J. Holton's Company of Appling County Militia in 1838. Green Tanner died at his home in eastern Coffee County in 1862, his will was probated June 02, 1862, in Coffee Court of Ordinary, and named his wife, Elmina to be exectrix. He bequeathed $200.00 each to his minor children; Mary, Lucinda, Delilah, "to equalize them with those who got land", no other children named in will.
