      58. James J. Taylor, Sr., born 1796 in Bacon / Montgomery Co., GA; died July 04, 1881 in Appling [now Bacon] Co., GA. He was the son of 116. William Taylor and 117. Mary Prescott. He married 59. Elizabeth Yates Abt. 1814.

      59. Elizabeth Yates, born 1798 in Georgia; died 1862 in Appling Co., GA. She was the daughter of 118. Wlliam Yates, Sr. and 119. Mary Wimberly.

Notes for James J. Taylor, Sr.:
James J. Taylor, his wife and most of their children were members of the Taylor Town Methodist Church in Appling [now Bacon] County. The campground for the Homerville Circuit of the Methodist Church was located near the Taylor home, and the Methodist Church now on that site is called Camp Ground Church.
It was organized after the camp meetings were discontinued. The old cemetery there contains the graves of James J. and his wife, and show that he died 04 July 1881, and his wife on 17 August 1890.

  Notes for Bartillery Burkett, Sr.:
BURKETT, Bartillery (page 32) [1] He served in the Indian War as a private in Capt. N. J. Holton's Company of Appling County Militia, 09 June to 19 August 1838. [2] His wife, Mrs. Levina Taylor Burkett was one of the first members of the Midway Methodist Church in eastern Coffee County -- a church which was organized 1854 chiefly through the labors of her brother, Rev. Wm. Green Taylor. She remained a member until her death; she was said to have lived a very pious and exemplary Christain life and exercised a great influence for righteousness in her home, church and community. Most of the Burkett children were also members at old Midway.

Notes for David Gaskins:
David and his brother, Fisher Gaskins, migrated to Georgia from North Carolina in early 1800's, eventually to South Georgia. David died 1860, and a marker is located at Antioch Church, northeast of Willacoochee, Georgia, in Atkinson County, Georgia. Antioch Church is located north of US Highway 82 [GA 520] between Willacoochee and Kirkland, Georgia.

  Notes for John L.B. Harper:
He came to Irwin County with his parents in boyhood and grew up in the community now known as Lax in former Irwin now Coffee County GA..
Mr. John Harper lived in the 518th militia district and the 5th land district of Irwin County, and was a Captain of the militia in the 518th district, 1838-1842, and he was Justice of the Peace in the same district, 1842-1845. He was cut out of Irwin into the new county of Coffee in 1854, and he lived there until his death.

[also see "Ward's History of Coffee County" by Warren P. Ward, published 1930; page 7 ... concerning first elections in the newly created Coffee County, Ga. ---- "the election for said officers shall be held at the house of Daniel Lott"].

In an article written in "The Douglas Enterprise" dated Thursday, June 24, 1971, titled "Two Lott Brothers Among Coffee's 1854 Leaders" it states:
"In 1819 the Georgia Legislature had established a voting precinct at his (referring to Daniel Lott) Shepherd home, which was at the time in Telfair County. This area around Lone Hill Church was taken into newly formed Coffee County in 1854....."
(This Lone Hill Church is now in West Green, Georgia, per Lourice)

He was on the list of the grand jurors drawn for the June term of court Coffee County, 1854, as Daniel Lott Sr.. ["Ward's History of Coffee County" ... pg. 21]

He moved with his family to the part of Ware County that became Coffee County, and first married Charlotte "Hollan" Gaskins, with whom he had five children. After her death about 1852, Mark married Rhoda Davis in 1854. There Mark served as a Justice of the First Inferior Court of the newly-created Coffee County from 1854 until 1861. Mark and Rhoda had five children together before Mark's death in 1863. Mark's widow, Rhoda, subsequently married Reuben Perry Floyd before 1865, with whom she had additional children.
