Elmina Merideth just before her death. The nephew Charles was the clue to finding her parents. I found him in 1850 with a son of Richard Davis in DeKalb Co., Illinois.

Francis Schupp is the daughter of Elmina and Nutter Meredith. Leona is apparently adopted since this census shows no children born to Francis,
also the parents of Leona were born in England and Missouri. This does not match with George & Francis.

There are some errors in this census. Ernest was Ephraim, Edie was Edward, Louis was Lewis and Segirchie was Gertrude. An older
Daughter; Elsie, age 20, was apparently not living with her parents when this census was taken. Also, Ephraim said his parents were
born in Wales. This is not correct. His parents Nutter Merideth and Elmina Davis reported their birthplace as Delaware and New York
respectively in every census I have found. (ie 1850, 1860, 1870, 1880, 1900 and 1910) I wish I knew the source of the myth about Wales.
The Merideth family immigrated from Wales to America in the late 1600’s or early 1700’s.

Is this Nutter Merideth? Th N. is not written clearly. It was indexed by the Family History Library as W, which it resembles. However, examination of the handwriting the letter does not match other W's on the same page. The letter starts out like a M or N but then a tail is added making it look somewhat like a W ???? or the census taker started to write the rest of the name & then stopped.
This man matches Nutter in age & place of birth. The wife, Sarah E., could be Sarah Ayers who living with Nutter & second wife Phoebe in the 1870 census. Phoebe died in 1876, so Nutter may have married again. Sarah's age is one year different & her place of birth matches.

Family legend says Nutter Merideth died while the family was in S.W. Missouri ca 1863. Elmina and Nutter are no longer together. They appear to be divorced but I have found no proof. Richt. is Richard John Merideth son of Nutter and Elmina who is living in the home of N. J. Beel from Ohio. Ellen is Helena daughter of Nutter and Elmina and she is working in the home of C. L. Dayton from N.Y.

Geo. W. is probably Taylor Merideth’s son & brother of Nutter. His age is correct here and on his tombstone it matches his indenture record. The indenture however gives his middle initial as M.
William H. is also probably Taylor’s son. His age matches the indenture record but the initial was recorded as H.
Thomas is likely also Taylor’s son as his age matches his indenture record.
Uriah also may be Taylor’s, but I have no proof.

I believe this man was a brother of Nutter Merideth. The directory of Bureau county listed both men side by side in center township in 1857. Nutter has moved to Missouri but Albert stayed in Bureau Co. His wife was Susan Taylor, a widow. They married in Tippacanoe Co., Indiana.

These people have a connection to Taylor Merideth. George, William and Major are son’s of Taylor and brother’s of Nutter. They were all indentured by their father at an early age to learn farming. Major later moved to Michigan. I don’t know if Uriah and Lydia are connected to Taylor & Nutter but they live in the same neighborhood. Uriah could be Taylor’s oldest son since Taylor started having a family ca 1800 and contined with several wives until ca 1840.

Nutter and Elmina are my Great Great Grandparents. He came to Illinois ca 1835 with the family of Ephraim Sapp to whom Nutter was apprenticed to learn farming. I believe Hezekiah Sapp was Ephraim Sapp’s son. Nutter named his second son my Great Grandfather, Ephraim Adelbert after this man so I wonder if there was any other connection with the Sapp family.
