| My father, Patrick Merrigan came to England from Londonderry in Northern Ireland just before the start of the Second World War where he met and married my mother, Irene Osborne. They married in Woodbridge, Suffolk, my mother’s hometown in 1941. It is believed that my father’s forbears originally came from Co. Wicklow via Dublin before arriving in Londonderry sometime before 1878. Other names that are prominent on the Merrigan side of the family are, Friel and Davis. My mother's family are generally all local to Suffolk and most of my research has cantered around the village of Hollesley in Suffolk where her father, William Osborne lived before he married my grandmother, Florence Last in 1916. Other names that are prominent on the Osborne side of the family are, Middleditch and Pottle. |
