Thomas Edward O'Brien (b. Abt. 1885, d. 16 Jul 1934)
Notes for Thomas Edward O'Brien:
Thomas and Jack Riley (husband of Lena Overbeck) contracted to put in the Great Northern Railroad from Minnesota to the Pacific, and also helped to build the spurs to Oregon and Vancouver.
Thomas married Mary Elizabeth (Babe) Overbeck.
They lived in the railroad camps, moving from site to site, as the railroad progressed.
Thomas used to tell his children that he swam across the Columbia River.
Living in the small tar paper shacks set up along railroad became difficult for Babe, especially with their young baby Thomas Malcom Arnold - their first child.
So, while her husband Thomas continued railroad construction, Babe and the young baby came back to live in Minnesota.
They first lived in Ironton, MN and then later, when Thomas returned they purchased a large Victorian house in Crosby, MN.
Thomas was killed in awork related mine accident in Cooley/Nashua, MN and is buried in he O'Brien family plot.
Babe continued to live in the house and raise the children. She died in Shakopee in 1969 while visiting her daughter. She is also buried in the O'Brien plot in St. Cloud.
