Catharine Belea was born July 26, 1789 in Dole, France, and died Abt. 1860 in Dubuque, Iowa.She married George Frederick Le Clere on date unknown in date unknown, son of Joseph LeClere and Catharine Bourquin.

She and her husband emigrated to America in the year1828.They settled in Mexico Oswego
County New York.In 1846 her family and the Laude's moved west viathe Great Lakes getting
off the boat at small town of Chicago.At Chicago their emigrant wagons and oxen were put
a shore.They helped each other get through the swamps with wooden poles, prying their heavy
wagons up as the oxen pulled.They treked to the Mississippi River, then up to Dubuque, Iowa.
They had a total of eleven children and a fine farm and orchard.I can only name four of the
children.This info comes from a letter compiled by Mrs. Lulu Howie Cass, Monticello, Iowa,
dated Agust 1, l956.
